DESIGN FINAL

DESIGN FINAL PROJECT PURCELL

CHOOSE A FASHION DESIGNER AND WRITE A TWO PAGE PAPER (AS WELL AS A WORKS CITED PAGE) ABOUT THIS ARTIST’S BIO, CREATIONS AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE IN FASHION DESIGN. THIS COULD BE A CURRENT DESIGNER OR ONE FROM THE PAST. CREATE AN OUTFIT THAT CONSISTS OF AT LEAST 4 PIECES THAT IS IN SOME WAY CONNECTED TO QUALITIES OF THE ARTIST YOU CHOSE. THIS COULD MEAN THAT IT USES THE SAME MATERIALS, SAME GENRE (SPORTS, BUSINESS, ETC…) OR COLOR SCHEMES. YOUR DESIGNS MUST CLEARLY INCORPORATE 3 PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN. ON THE BACK OF THE DRAWINGS MUST BE A SENTENCE OR MORE IDENTIFYING WHICH THREE PRINCIPLES WHERE USED AND HOW/WHERE. THERE IS NO SIZE LIMITATION, BUT THE DRAWING SHOULD MINIMALLY BE 9 X 12 AND IN FULL COLOR.
PRESENTATIONS DURING THE EXAM BLOCK WILL BE BRIEF BUT SHOULD PRESENT TO THE CLASS AS THOUGH NO ONE HAS ANY PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARTISTS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ THE PAPER BUT GIVE A WELL THOUGHT THROUGH SYNOPSIS ALONG WITH THE IMAGE. YOU WILL LIKELY BE ASKED SOME BASIC QUESTIONS AS WELL SO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR TOPIC. THIS PROJECT COUNTS FOR 20% OF YOUR GRADE!

RUBRIC FOR FINAL PRESENTATIONS

ALL PROJECTS FOR THE FINAL PRESENTATIONS ARE GRADED AS FOLLOWS:
45%- PAPER
45%- ARTWORK
10%- PRESENTATION

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE HANDOUTS AND HAVE YOUR MATERIALS READY AHEAD OF TIME. PAPERS NEED TO BE PRINTED AND READY TO HAND IN BEFORE CLASS. TIME WILL NOT BE USED IN CLASS TO PRINT OUT YOUR PAPER. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE AS MANY UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS MAY ARISE.

WRITE A TWO-THREE PAGE (double spaced) ESSAY ON A WRITER, PENCILER, INKER, COLORIST, LETTERER OR EDITOR OF YOUR CHIOCE. THIS PAPER WILL BE PRESENTED ON OUR EXAM BLOCK AND SHOULD GIVE THE CLASS A STRONG IDEA OF WHO THIS ARTIST IS AND WHAT THEY ARE KNOWN FOR DOING. MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR CHOICE APPROVED BY MR. P BEFORE BEGINNING.
BE SURE TO INVESTIGATE WHEN THEY BEGAN THEIR CAREERS, WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, FOR WHAT COMPANIES, AND ANY INTERESTING HIGHLIGHTS OF THEIR WORK. WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DID THEY HAVE? BE SPECIFIC WITH ALL INFORMATION. PROVIDE AT LEAST TWO VISUAL EXAMPLES AND INCLUDE A REFERENCE PAGE.

YOUR PAPER SHOULD EXPLAIN THE ART MOVEMENTS/PERIOD THE ARTIST WAS INVOLVED IN, THEIR BACKGROUND/HISTORY AND TRAINING, AND WHAT MAKES THEIR WORK SIGNIFICANT IN THE ART WORLD. DISCUSS WHY YOU CHOSE THIS ARTIST AND FIND OUT ABOUT THEIR CREATIVE PROCESS; WHAT SIZE WAS THEIR WORK, HOW DID THEY GO ABOUT CREATING THEIR WORK, WHAT KIND OF SUBJECTS DID THEY WORK WITH?

PART TWO OF THIS CHOICE IS TO ALSO CREATE A COLOR IMAGE IN THE ARTIST’S STYLE. MINIMUM SIZE IS 9X12. P TO INSURE THOSE INDIVIDUALS CAN WORK WELL TOGETHER.) ALL FOUR (OR LESS) PEOPLE WILL WRITE THEIR OWN PAPERS ABOUT THE SAME ARTIST AND POOL THAT INFORMATION TOGETHER TO CREATE A SINGLE IMAGE FOR THE CEILING.

ALTERNATE PROJECT: YOU MAY WORK IN A SMALL GROUP OF EITHER THREE OR FOUR TO CREATE A CEILING TILE. EACH INDIVIDUAL MUST WRITE THEIR OWN PAPER (same criteria as above) AND POOLING THAT INFORMATION YOU MAY CREATE AN IMAGE TOGETHER. EACH PERSON WILL BE GRADED FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ARTWORK AS WELL AS THEIR PAPER.
