CREATE AN AD PROCESS




1) CALL THE ASSIGNED CONTACT PERSON ON YOUR ENTRY FORM. IF THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE, PLEASE LEAVE THEM A MESSAGE.
IT MAY BE HELPFUL TO WRITE DOWN A FEW QUESTIONS BEFORE CALLING. THE TOP PRIORITY WOULD BE TO FIND OUT IF THEY ARE LOOKING FOR ANY SPECIFICS IN THEIR AD. THEY MAVE HAVE AN ITEM OR EVENT THAT THEY WOULD LIKE YOU TO FOCUS ON.

2) BEGIN THUMBNAIL SKETCHES. COME UP WITH A VARIETY OF APPROACHES. DO NOT CREATE ONE SKETCH AND SETTLE ON THAT. DEVELOPMENT OF THE IDEA IS CRUCIAL. INCORPORATE SOME KIND OF A BORDER INTO YOUR DESIGN.

3) PAY ATTENTION TO THE DIRECTIONS ON YOUR AD. MANY OF THEM MUST BE ORIENTED A SPECIFIC WAY AND THERE SHOULD BE NO SIGNITURES ON THE ARTWORK.

4) LOOK AT VARIOUS FONTS TO DECIDE HOW YOU WANT YOUR TEXT TO LOOK. IF YOUR BUSINESS HAS A LOGO THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DUPLICATE, IT IS FINE TO TRACE IT. WE CAN USE THE PHOTOCOPIERS TO ENLARGE/REDUCE SIZE AND THEN USE THE LIGHT TABLE TO TRANSFER IT TO THE FINISHED ART.

5) FIND THE NECESSARY REFERENCES FOR YOUR IDEA EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT THE ITEMS LOOKS LIKE.

6) ONCE THE PENCIL ART IS COMPLETE, PLEASE SHOW IT TO MR. PURCELL FOR APPROVAL BEFORE BEGINNING INK.

7) IN THE INK PHASE PLEASE REMEMBER THAT OUR GOAL IS TO POLISH THE PENCIL ART AND MAKE ALL OF THE LINEWEIGHTS AND TEXTURES LOOK DELIBERATE AND REFINED.

8) FINALLY, HAVE FUN AND KEEP IN MIND THE QUALITIES THAT YOU ENJOY IN AN AD. REMEMBER THAT HUMOR IS A POWERFUL DEVICE IN MOST CASES!

CREATE AN AD 2010


CREATE AN AD IS AN ANNUAL CONTEST IN WHICH STUDENTS ARE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED A LOCAL BUSINESS TO CREATE A BLACK AND WHITE ADVERTISEMENT FOR. CLASSWORK WILL BEGIN ON THIS PROJECT MARCH 22ND AND BE DUE ON APRIL 9TH.
GRAND PRIZE- $75 CHECK TO SPEND AT PARTICIPATING BUSINESS (NOT THOSE BANKS THOUGH, SORRY)
THREE DIVISIONAL WINNERS- $50 CHECK TO SPEND AT PARTICIPATING BUSINESS (NOT THOSE BANKS AGAIN THOUGH, SORRY)
THE TWO RUNNERS UP IN EACH DIVISION WILL RECEIVE $20 G.C. AND HONORABLE MENTIONS $10 G.C.

DESIGN-MURAL DESIGN WITH DEPTH

Trompe l’oeil, French for “trick the eye” is an illusionary art technique with a long history in Western art. The intention is to create an optical illusion, in that the viewer is given the impression that there is a three dimensional object or scene before them, not just a realistic image (see posts relevant to trompe l’oeil, in particular the post on Eric Grohe).

PLEASE POST A COMMENT THAT GIVES ME A) FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU THINK MIGHT WORK FOR A THEME FOR OUR MURAL AND B) IF YOU SEE ANY SPECIFIC IDEAS/ARTISTS THAT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO INCORPORATE INTO OUR PROJECT.

STORYBOARDING SKETCHBOOK

THE SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT FOR 2/26 APPEARED TO BE PROBLEMATIC FOR MOST STUDENTS. WHEN THE ASSIGNMENT WAS EXPLAINED, THERE WERE NO QUESTIONS WHICH LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT WAS CLEAR TO EVERYONE. AFTER GRADING THE FEW THAT WERE TURNED IN, IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT THERE WAS CONFUSION. SO THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL BE GIVEN AGAIN ON TUESDAY MARCH 2ND AND DUE ON THURSDAY MARCH 4TH. BELOW IS THE ASSIGNMENT AS IT WAS GIVEN:

CREATE 3 DIFFERENT STORYBOARDS OF THE FOLLOWING SCENE:
  • AN INDIVIDUAL WALKING TOWARDS THE VIEWER
  • THE INDIVIDUAL IS IN SHADOW
  • THIS IS A WINDY, NIGHT TIME SCENE TAKING PLACE IN AN ALLEY WAY

SO, YOU SHOULD END UP WITH THREE DIFFERENT "CAMERA ANGLES" OF THE SAME SHOT WITH ALL OF THE SAME INFORMATION BEING DESCRIBED IN EACH.

IF YOU REFER TO THE HANDOUTS YOU WERE ASSIGNED TO READ, THIS SHOULD BE A VERY DOABLE TASK.
